OATH is a new fashion label from Fashion Design and Business Management graduate, Rich Mnisi. Winning AFI Young Designer of the Year 2014 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Rich has an eye for clean and contemporary silhouettes. He’s inspired by pop culture and sportswear and aims to keep his aesthetic “dope” but approachable. Rich’s business partner, Shane Childs, is an accountant and photographer. Shane and Rich’s art-meets-business skill set is a good one. They work together, visioning and directing collections, and their entrepreneurial endeavour.
Words like ‘android’ ‘science fiction’ and ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ come to mind when you look through OATH’s A/W 15 photoshoot. “The inspiration for the Autumn/Winter ‘15/’16 collection is derived from a still in the movie Dark Shadows that captures a spirit of dark and quirky themes,” explains OATH. Dark Shadows, a Tim Burton movie, sees Jonny Depp as a vampire, with gothic spookiness and dysfunctional humour. It might not be a science fiction, but it’s colourful, volatile and a little crazy. OATH is half fantasy, half reality and their latest collection makes you dream of the future.
It’s exciting to see texture, shine, pattern and colour spark interest all at once. The brightly coloured backdrops play against the collection’s neutral tones, and flashes of gold turn sporty designs into street wear luxury.
