When paging through almost any old family photo album there are a few things you’re likely to find: a picture of someone holding a fish, nature shots or shots of people in nature, portraits that are unflattering but full of character, flash photography used to dramatic effect and a dozen or so sunsets. These are moments at once recognizable and bizarre that capture life in all its glory.
Using images made (with cameras, pencils or paintbrushes) by 35 different SA creatives over the summer break, we’ve put together a “holiday photo album” inspired by the feelings evoked by old family photographs. From skinny dipping in a black and white lake to a trip back in time to an old school diner, all the way to New York City to celebrate Christmas and back to Hillbrow for New Years Eve – the collection of snapshots and sketches to follow forms a collective photo album of things seen and done by local creatives over the holidays. Enjoy! Click on each image for a link to the site of the person who made it.
