Cassper Nyovest Goes Gold | A Video by The Visual Content Gang for Hunter’s

Cassper Goes Gold is a short documentary presented by Hunter’s that profiles 24-year-old Cassper Nyovest, arguably the most successful South African hip hop artist of 2014, in an intimate interview where he speaks about the motivation behind his work.

2014 saw the South African rapper/producer’s career skyrocket when his debut album, Tsholofelo, was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of South Africa after having sold over 20 000 copies in the unprecedented period of only two months after its release.

To celebrate this occasion, Hunter’s Cider partnered up with #TeamNyovest to put together a free concert at Constitution Hill in November of last year and The Visual Content Gang was commissioned to capture the event. While shooting the performance the Cape Town based team of content creators, founded by director Takezito and Zunaid The Editor, was moved by the overflow of positive energy between the artist and his crowd. Seeking to capture and tell Cassper’s story in a cinematic way, they proposed that Cassper Goes Gold be more than just an event video. The result is footage from the concert interspersed with Cassper telling personal stories like that of the origins of his album’s name. Tsholofelo means hope and is also the name of his younger sister who gave him her lunch money to travel to Johannesburg to chase his dream. The video is punctuated with Cassper’s quotes in gold, animated type.
