Toe Vind Ek Jou, The New Single Off Francois van Coke’s Debut Solo Album

Francois van Coke

Already dubbed one of the most beautiful Afrikaans ballads of the year, Toe Vind Ek Jou is the first video and second single from the just-launched, debut self-titled solo album of Francois van Coke, the legendary frontman of groups Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel. This follows the release of the first single, Moontlik Nooit, a dark electronic lamentation released in February this year.

The song features the grande dame of Afrikaans rock, Karen Zoid. Francois and Karen struck up an easy friendship last year, and she apparently inspired him to explore the vulnerability in this song, a first for the singer. This song is symbolic of the whole album, which celebrates a new chapter in Francois’ personal life and career. It is a rock-based album, imbued with folk, country, alternative, industrial and even pop influences. However, the songs on a whole are far less heavy than those of the bands (Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel) Francois plays in. Francois teamed-up with old and new friends to bring this album to life. They are Jedd Kossew, Karen Zoid, Laudo Liebenberg, Hunter Kennedy and Arno Carstens.

Francois’s album launch tour kicks off tonight with a FREE show at SGT. Pepper in Cape Town. He’ll be accompanied on stage for the performance by Jedd Kossew (Van Coke Kartel) on lead guitar, Richard Onraet (Jesse Clegg) on rhythm guitar, Rudolph Willemse on bass and keyboard and Sheldon Yoko (Die Heuwels Fantasties) on drums.
