20 Apr Design Doing Good | A New Series of Artist Blankets for MRP Home
MRP Home is making winter cosier and better looking once again this year with its returning Colab project which sees a limited edition collaboration with some of South Africa’s top designers and artists. Sindiso Nyoni, Kim Longhurst, Kurt Pio, Mia Widlake and Alex Hamilton were invited to create artworks to be transferred onto big, comfy, must-have blankets. The best part is that the venture is a Design Doing Good project, which means that it’s all about giving back. R50 of each sale will be donated to the MRP Foundation whose focus is on uplifting young South Africans through education.
Kim’s design is based on family crests and symbols, Alex was inspired by the designs found on ‘Karoo’ homeware and Mia’s design is a reminder to be thankful of all we have while also taking inspiration from the place we go when we fall asleep. Kurt and Sindiso have lent their signature skills to their designs; Kurt’s an abstract black and white painting and Sindiso’s a Cubism-inspired portrait. In the video above the artists let us know about working together with MRP on the project, as well as their individual approaches.
