
06 May AfrikaBurn 2015 | Setting the Desert Ablaze
Last week the Tankwa desert in the Karoo exploded in an unseasonal bloom of the brightest and weirdest variety as people flocked from far and wide to revel in the dust in celebration of free expression and radical self-reliance that is AfrikaBurn 2015. This year’s theme was The Gift, which reiterated the central premise of generosity and inclusion, unconditional sharing and a cash-free community. Over the course of the week-long event, Burners set the martian landscape ablaze (literally and figuratively) peacocking around the Binnekring in increasingly elaborate and eccentric costumes and gathering to watch monumental artworks sacrificed to the fire gods.
We couldn’t attend Tankwa Town this year, and so asked you to be our eyes, ears and feet on the ground to soak up all the fantastical sights that you’ll only ever see at AfrikaBurn. This is what you got:
