27 May The Curse of the Sad Mummy | A Musically-Driven Animation by Shy the Sun
‘The Curse of the Sad Mummy’ follows a perpetually lonely character as he embarks on an unfruitful journey to find friends. Cape Town based creative concept agency Shy the Sun was tasked by Riot Games to create a musically-driven animation to narrate the backstory of Amumu, an existing character from the game League of Legends.
To inject some humour into the dark and sombre atmosphere of the music track, Shy the Sun played up Amumu’s charming nature and physical appearance – with a head far too big for his body and awkward, cloddish feet. “His emotional personality gave us a lot of scope to play with when developing a storyline for this piece,” they say. The visual style is inspired by paper cut-outs, a deliberate departure from the 3D, action packed, realistically rendered style that is typically seen in video games.
