09 Jun Fantasma Performs Shangrila in the back of a Taxi for Black Cab Sessions
Black Cab Sessions has been squishing musicians into the back of London cabs since 2007, and asking them to perform one song, in one take, in order to get back to what they describe as the magic and intimacy of a live performance. Over the years since, they’ve recorded hundreds of mini-gigs with the latest addition being South African group Fantasma – minus a few members – performing an acoustic and percussive version of their track ‘Shangrila’. The video was shot on the five-man collective’s recent European tour.
‘Shangrila’ was the first song the band ever wrote as a group and usually features blue-haired Moonchild on vocals. Spoek Mathambo does the honours this time around as the cab makes its way around town, a speeding ambulance sirens by and the cameraman expertly steals tight crops. Take a look at the animated music video for the song released in January this year.
