South African miniature artist Lorraine Loots made her international art scene debut on 8th July 2015. Preferring to call herself a painter instead of ‘an artist’, her first ever international showcase #ANTSinNYC launched at the Three Kings Studio gallery space in Brooklyn, New York.
Dozens of New Yorkers, South African expats, fellow artists and Instagram followers flocked to the gallery to view the 740 paintings no bigger than a R2 coin or a US quarter. “I think that’s one of the nice things about a show like this, that you can see the progression and how you grow as an artist, and how your style changes,” Lorraine told US news anchor Anthony Mason during a one-on-one interview on CBS This Morning.
The talented painter who initially decided not to pursue a career as a full-time artist but wanted to keep her skills intact, started painting one miniature every day which led to her project series ‘365 Paintings for Ants’, followed by ‘365 Postcards for Ants’ – a South African-themed tribute to the sights and culture of her home country.
#ANTSinNYC features 730 retrospective gallery proof prints and ten New York-inspired originals. The exhibition will run until July 15th, 2015.
