09 Sep MaXhosa by Laduma Ngxokolo’s Kaleidoscopic SS15/16 Collection
Laduma Ngxokolo’s knitwear range ‘Mtanom’gquba’ is bold in colour and easy to wear. A combination of graphic black and white and kaleidoscopic joggers, golf shirts, jumpers and shorts are worn interchangeably creating a look that is visually striking, yet practical enough for the everyday.
Xhosa patterns, which are central to his MaXhosa label, are reworked in contemporary ways to create a modern look without losing the elements of traditional cultural dress. The turquoise trims on sleeves and collars as well as the red drawstrings offset against the black and white shorts and joggers all exemplify Laduma’s eye for detail and distinct finesse. ‘Mtanom’gquba’ first grabbed everyone’s attention earlier this year when it closed the first night of SA Menswear Fashion Week. The label describes the range as “a celebration of dark skin tones contrasted with bright hues to elevate the appreciation of colour diversity”.
