15 Sep Unused Possessions Come to Life in the TVC ‘Gumtree Me, Please!’
A newly launched TV commercial depicts a household struggle we’ve all experienced: getting rid of unused items that are taking up space and collecting dust. The spot shows household items come to life to protest their dormant state by asking their owner to “free them” by selling them to someone who will actually use them. Created by Ogilvy and Mather Cape Town, this ad will kickstart and form part of a greater integrated campaign, Gumtree Me, Please!
“We wanted to take a unique perspective on quality, unused items – the perspective of the items themselves,” explains Alison Hingle, associate creative director of O&M CT. “They were made to be used and are highly frustrated when they aren’t. This gives us scope to turn the items into fun and entertaining characters, acting out their frustration until they can be given a better home, via Gumtree.”
