02 Oct Local Creatives Turn Biometrics into Music in Bryan Little’s Ad for the Vigo VCloud
The Vigo VCloud is an installation that converts biometrics into music; turning people’s pulses, brain waves and muscle movements into deconstructed instruments. Designed by South African artist Daniel Hirschmann and his London-based design and technology consultancy Hirch & Mann, the VCloud is currently travelling around South Africa to harness sounds which will later be remixed by top DJ’s.
To demonstrate the VCloud and to celebrate urban Africa’s emerging maker culture, Bryan Little of Fly On The Wall directed a spot for Vigo – Namibia Breweries’ non-alcoholic malt drink – called ‘The World Needs More of You’. Local musicians Tumi, Nonku Phiri, Simphiwe Tshabalala from The Brother Moves On and sound designer Simon Kohler (aka Sylvan Aztok) collaborated using the VCloud to create the video’s soundtrack.
“The ad looks futuristic, but everything you see in it is already available,” says Bryan, who, in making the ad, had the opportunity to play with the latest maker toys including PixelStik, projection mapping, animated LED bike wheels and hacked Xbox kinect imagery.
