Affordable Art That Gives More: 1 Artwork = 150 Storybooks for Kids

Tonight is the Joburg opening of the Broken Monsters Charity Art Show brought to you by Nando’s, and you’re invited! Exhibition curator Jacki Lang has selected 10 artworks from the Cape Town show as a small taste of the 197 original artworks donated by South African artists that are being sold to raise funds to give books to children who don’t have them.

The Cape Town leg of this creative, collaborative and generous art exhibition was a huge success. Event visitors queued around the block ahead of the show and 120 artworks donated by top South African creatives were sold on the opening night, with 100% of the proceeds going towards sponsoring 21 000 children’s storybooks for South African children.

Don’t miss the Johannesburg exhibition tonight, starting at 5:30 for 6pm at Nando’s Central Kitchen, 10 A Victoria Road, Lorentzville. Come enjoy cocktails in the indigenous garden next to beautiful Brett Murray installations, Nando’s snacks, live music and incredible art. The artworks cost R1500 each and every work sold equates to 150 storybooks that kids lit organisation Book Dash can print and distribute.

The exhibition is open all day on Friday and on Saturday morning. For those who’d like enjoy the artworks at a weekend pace, Lauren Beukes, Jacki Lang and Kirsty Niehaus of Nando’s Art Initiative will be leading an exhibition walkabout, which includes some of the contributing artists, this Saturday 28 November from 10:30 to 11:30am.
