15 Dec Premiere: Listen to Gourmet’s New Single ‘Floods’
Cape Town’s Gourmet is new to the local music scene, but he’s fast making a name for himself. Low, terse horns and drumbeats intersperse measured and somewhat melancholic vocals on his tracks, resulting in a polished, electronic pop-rock sound that’s likely to be on everyone’s favourite playlist soon.
Having signed with creative label 1991, Gourmet has slowly been teasing his debut album, Cashmere which is due for full release later this month. Each release features a single and a short video vignette alluding to the artist’s laid back, refined audio-visual aesthetic.
Today sees the release of ‘Floods’, a distinct track on the album, due to its use of jazz inspired strings with a somewhat off-beat drum line to create a sultry and slow paced sound, rising to a swirl of accentuated electric guitar towards the end.
Go sit in your favourite corner of the room, turn the lights down, put on some headphones, maybe even light a few candles, and enjoy.
