Sneaker heads were buzzing with excitement this past weekend as adidas launched the newest addition to the adidas Originals family, the NMD. Made for a nomadic lifestyle without boundaries, the NMD references styles like the Micro Pacer, the Rising Star and the Boston Super. “adidas is a pioneering brand—that is the principle we were built on,” says Nic Galway, adidas Originals’ VP of global design. “Our archive features the best technology of its time and continues to empower us. It’s not a museum. It’s a tool. It’s a reference.”
The NMD made it’s South African debut with a retail exhibition at Smith Gallery in Cape Town in partnership with Shelflife Store. Ahead of this activation, adidas enlisted 11 local creatives to show us how they’d style the shoe. Tony gum wore her NMD‘s with boxy, flared pants and a woven hat, Lulama Wolf kept things simple with a stremlined all-black look, and Kabelo Kungwane styled his with rolled up chinos and a baseball tee. Check the various interpretations out below in a series of photographs by Nelis and Werner Botha.
