24 Mar Banele Khoza illustrates the looks at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week
Bright young illustrator Banele Khoza made his way to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week this year to try his hand at street style reporting. However, after the runway shows, he saw nothing but stock standard ramp photographs emerge, and concluded that there’s a gap in the fashion media for a more artistic approach. He decided to apply his signature painterly style of digital illustration to reinterpret some of his personal highlights.
“I had left fashion school hoping to one day be an illustrator,” Banele says. “At first I thought I had to be appointed by someone to illustrate, but it’s easier to do the job first and then share the outcome. At MBFW16 I hand-picked works that I thought were strong pieces on the runway and contained enough detail to allow me to capture their aesthetic or portray the overall mood of the show.”
Next, Banele is getting to work on his upcoming solo exhibition, which will open at the Pretoria Art Museum on July 9, 2016. Keep an eye on his progress on Facebook, tumblr and Instagram.
