01 Jul Mood and place in the photographs of Alexa Singer
Model turned photographer, Alexa Singer‘s work aims to shine a light on all the different shapes and forms of beauty that exist in the world. “I live by the saying that there is beauty in everything,” she says, and explains that photography transports her into her own private world where she can see things through a different perspective and let her imagination run free. It’s when working behind the lens that Alexa feels most comfortable and herself. Her early career as a model, in which she appeared on 17 Vogue covers by the time she was 22, put her off the fashion business for many years, and it was through photography that she tentatively found her way back to her creativity.
Today, Alexa draws inspiration from nature, which is so evident in her work which is so often shot on location in different landscapes and natural settings that range from deserts to lily ponds. Her images capture a sense of dreamy wanderlust, which is another important element that informs Alexa’s approach to life and her work. Whether in black and white or colour her images always convey a strong sense of mood and place, and her frank yet alluring portraits stare out evocatively from the frame.
