08 Jul Dope and detailed illustrations of hip hop stars by Mulalo Teddy
When speaking to graphic designer Mulalo Teddy, it is clear that he is passionate about two things; music and design. A proud graduate from the University of Johannesburg in Multimedia Design, Mulalo is completely self-taught when is comes to illustration. He says that he “explores techniques online and merges a variety of methods to create his own unique style”.
In the midst of the highly influential and positive buzz surrounding up and coming South African hip hop artists, Mulalo says, “it’s all about celebrating new talent”. His work titled New Skool Rise creates 2D character portraits of South African Artists, who in Mulalo’s words, are “shaping the current state of South African hip hop”. Each illustration is themed around the song that was deemed the artist’s break-through hit in the industry. Mulalo intends to extend his series as more artists emerge onto the rapidly evolving scene.
