13 Jan Siya Ndaba is a young fashion designer doing it for himself
NOT HUMAN is a streetwear brand that was established in late 2016 by 18 year old Siya Ndaba. The label recently dropped their Spring/Summer’17 unisex concept range/capsule titled, ‘I’M A LONER’ inspired by our South African army uniform. The collection is characterised by Pastel Pink, Military Green, Grey and White and has four 1/1 outfits with tote bags for each look.
“All I ever wanted was to pursue my passion and change the world through clothes. It all started with my grandmother’s old sewing machine, last year I started practicing my craft and having sleepless nights, because I wanted to share my talent with the youth of South Africa, and eventually I ended up creating this collection,” says Siya.
The combination of military camouflage with pastel pink gives life to the standard army outfit and reveals a bit about Siya’s approach to design – evidently, he gravitates towards juxtaposing seemingly contrasting elements. This is his first-ever collection and if it’s anything to go by, we sure he’s going to make it big in the South African fashion industry.
