18 Aug Joburg-based Vicky Kan makes creative director debut with ’90s-inspired Fila lookbook
For the first time, young, Johannesburg-based creative director Vicky Kan was given carte blanche to create a lookbook for non-other than sporting goods brand Fila. Shot in a shopping centre and park in Lonehill, Johannesburg, FILAmily: THE KIDS includes authentic vintage pieces, samples and new merchandise that’s due to hit stores mid-September.
“Fila has been one of my favourite streetwear brands for some time. A friend of mine knew this and introduced me to the creative director and designer at Fila. We completely hit it off and started to exchange ideas. Both of us were very keen on collaborating and so that birthed both a friendship and the lookbook FILAmily: THE KIDS,” says Vicky when explaining how the collaboration came about.
The vibrant and colourful lookbook showcases Fila brings nostalgic elements of ’90s style to the forefront.
“There are so many different ways to style the clothing [in this range], it is such a multifaceted and versatile brand, which is why I find it appeals to me on a personal level,” says Vicky. “Even though I am a streetwear stan, I really do feel that Fila is a brand for everybody. Their designs range from sporting wear to vintage to street culture “
