New nostalgia: Better Half Vintage’s summer lookbook has arrived

Sarah Byram is the owner of Cape Town-based vintage brand Better Half Vintage. This year she opened a second hand store in Observatory, Cape Town — a lifelong dream of hers.

When she moved into the neighbourhood in April and came upon a To Let ad on lower Main Road, she read it as a welcome sign. “I love the energy and vibration of Observatory so I thought it would be a great location for our first store,” she says. “After being in business for almost five years, naturally this was the next step.”

Sarah recently collaborated with photographer Anke Loots and model Nina Milner to art direct and shoot a summer lookbook for the label. “All photography, styling, make-up, hair and art direction was done by the two of us,” says Anke. “All clothing was hand picked by Sarah. The name Better Half itself suggests the high-fiving of two mutually invested personalities. This series is about making whatever shit with your number one when you’re both the most single ever.”

“It’s about dressing for you, feeling good and owning your style,” Sarah describes of the latest vintage selection, which channels retro style. “It’s the lovechild of the ’80s and ’90s. We specialise in clothing and accessories from these two decades. Our range is constantly changing with new stock landing in store every two weeks.”

The lookbook combines various pieces of the range with vivid projections of illustrated graphics.
