13 Mar Cape Town designer Taariq Latiff collabs to create fresh wearable art range
Designer Taariq Latiff has teamed up with wearable-art maker Daphne Accessories to create a line of fresh satin chiffon scarves. The Cape Town-based designer has been exploring visuals from across the continent for the past three years and has manifested this research onto the hand-stitched scarves.
Taariq is designer and owner of Chclt, a design studio housed in Sea Point, and has worked alongside Danica Ricciardi, owner of Daphne Accessories, stylist Robyn Agulhas, and models Lara and Zandi Mgutshini, to craft the scene in which he shot the collection.
“Working with other creatives on this project was especially interesting; seeing how different skill sets pull together was cool. I found it supportive not having to consider every aspect of the shoot, which gave more room for me to focus on the photography,” Latiff says about the lookbook, which the collab released earlier this year.
Robyn shares thoughts around styling. “I went for a minimal look and kept silhouettes simple. Styling an accessory was pivotal to this shoot as the scarf had a print design, so colour choice was important and to keep it within the colour palette of the scarves. We went for an abstract theme in certain shots, with a touch femininity to it.”
The collections features six different colourways and prints. Check out the collection.
