The Facet Range is the latest collection from Dor + Kie Objects and features a selection of beautiful, geometric wooden jewellery that was designed with the aim of capturing the preciousness and beauty of wood.
In order to create wooden gemstones and achieve these geometric shapes, the Dor + Kie team mimicked lapidary techniques to design this range. Wood forms the basis of each piece, with polymer clay being used to create beads in complementary colours. The clay beads are handmade in marble or terrazzo to add some contrasting texture to the wood and brass. Even though the pieces are quite sculptural, they’re also lightweight and comfortable to wear.
Sven Kristian, the photographer behind the Facet Range lookbook, used the natural landscape of the West Coast to complement the tone and textures of the jewellery, while colour-blocking was used to pick up the colours in the clay beads.
A soft focus photography technique adds a lovely feminine layer to the images, which brings a balance to the sharp lines of the geometric pieces.
Diana and Andre James are the husband and wife team that make up Dor + Kie Objects, which is based in Woodstock, Cape Town. While Andre brings an industrial design background to the business, Diana has experience in jewellery design.
