If you’ve had your fingers on the pulse of the local music scene over the past few years, you’ll definitely know of singer-songwriter Bonj Mpanza.
Having recently moved back to her hometown of Johannesburg after living and working in Cape Town, Bonj is a musician who’s perhaps best known for her brand of soulful melodies which often plays around with electronic elements, and a healthy dose of gospel and groove. Over the years, Bonj’s taken to stages across the country and amassed a considerable following through her time with The City as well as her solo shows.
What’s notable about Bonj is her penchant for collaboration and experimentation in local music. To date, the artist has collaborated on numerous tracks and projects with DJ Maramza and Card on Spokes, proving herself to be adept across a number of genres and styles.
Most recently, Bonj’s brought out a new track with Maramza titled ‘uWrongu’ as well as her own single ‘Til the Tide’ which was released through Jacquel Entertainment Group, who recently partnered with Universal Music Africa.
‘Til the Tide’ marks a turning point for Bonj – a new offering from a musician who’s been contributing to the local music scene for a long time. We can’t wait to see where her solo career goes.
