Space is the Place, reads Deniece Marz…’s (real name Xoliswa Denise Moyo) bio on Instagram, and wavy vibes and otherworldly mixes are some of the musician’s and live-mix DJ’s biggest assets.
The self-assured young DJ has gotten crowds at Kitcheners, AND Club, and Great Dane moving, and has performed at this year’s Red Bull Music Festival. She’s only been active in the music industry for the past three years, but has already been garnering attention from club-goers and industry professionals alike. She states that one of her biggest gigs was being booked by Afropunk for their smaller events, as well as the main one in 2017. She’ll also be performing on the Red Bull Music Stage at this year’s Oppikoppi.
Her mixes are a blend of electronic, hip-hop and house but her experimental take on these genres, as well as her natural mixing skills and technique, set her above the pack. Growing up, music was a constant for her, with her hip-hop enthusiast uncle, jazz bassist father, and music producer brother filling the home with different sounds and approaches to music.
Her interest extends from music to fashion – as she’s a recent fashion design graduate. She’s a budding stylist too, and her eye for athleisure and urban street culture feeds into her music pursuits and live performances. All in all – one to watch.
