Langa Mavuso is a 24-year-old singer and songwriter who, although a musician of the times, croons like a seasoned pro. His music is slow-burning, tender, and technically sound.
Musically, Mavuso expresses the tensions, pains and joys that come with love and romance – and his stand-out singles Home and Sunday Blues, are expertly crafted. His parents are both singers, and he grew up with them going to choir practice, and taking part in choral competitions. His vocal skills were nurtured in childhood, and it was at the UCT Music School where he decided to continue his musical evolution.
In late 2016, his EP Liminal Sketches was released, and since then Mavuso has gone from strength to strength. His talents did not go amiss to big names, and when a video of him singing went viral on social media, his DM’s were flooded with messages.
One of them, from DJ Black Coffee resonated with the artist the most, and Mavuso was signed to Soulistic Music, the renowned DJ’s label. Mavuso is preparing for his debut album launch this year, and with collaborations with such rising stars such as Zoe Modiga and Bongeziwe Mabandla under his belt, he looks set to be one of SA’s biggest musical stars.
