If you’re in the advertising industry, Thabang Manyelo is a name you should know. Manyelo’s work in the copywriting and advertising industry has recently earned him a Loeries Young Creative Award, and his creative prowess, passion, and tenacity have resulted in him moving from strength to strength in the industry.
Growing up in Polokwane, Manyelo noticed a lack of interest and resources in the creative landscape. However, with the support of his grandmother, who encouraged him to enrol at Vega, he won a Pendoring award in his first year and found his niche as a story-teller. After Vega, he moved to FCB Africa, and became one of the agency’s most award-winning copywriters – such as winning Best of Show in radio at the One Show Awards and a Graphite Pencil at D&AD.
Manyelo’s days aren’t only spend at the writing desk, however – he was the Inaugural Comedy Central Inter-Agency Comedy-Knockout Champion and a judge of the 2016 Loeries non-English TV, Radio and Print category.
Representation in the ad industry is an important focus for Manyelo, and through the genre of interesting and inventive story-telling, he’s creating an unforgettable legacy as one of South Africa’s most esteemed ad industry copywriters and cultural workers.
