13 Jul A look at how this R1 art piece illuminates the August House
Everyday is a good day to enjoy art especially if it’s hanging in plain sight. So if you walk through the streets of Johannesburg CBD you have the opportunity to gaze at R1’s 172 chromadek plate installation at the August House, which colourfully brightens End Street in Doornfontein.
This art piece, which R1 says is his largest installed creation so far, required 688 drilled holes, is 23 meters high and 6 meters wide.
The installation took four days to complete and he couldn’t be happier with the workmanship – where the embellishment enhances and highlights the structure of the building, offering anyone that’s wiling to look an impressive view.
“One of the key aspects I love about the work is due to its placement on the corner wall, creates a 3D like effect. It makes the art work seem to pop out of the building, creating a sculptural like mural” says R1.
