25 Jul POOL – An experiment in alternative instituent forms
Located at Ellis House in New Doornfontein, POOL provides a platform for artistic experimentation, research and production.
POOL is the result of a joint investigation into the role, form, and organising systems of art institutions in South Africa. It’s an experiment in alternative instituent forms that aims to stretch curatorial methodology and artistic practices.
Their latest exhibition, PALM PALM Palmer, which was curated by Mika Conradie, looked at the imported palm tree as a vector for producing narratives and imaginaries within colonial and postcolonial Johannesburg. Artists included Yto Barrada, Simon Gush, Sebastian Mejia, Lucas Odahara.
The POOL project space is open from Wednesday – Saturday 11am – 3pm.
