As part of the 2019 Design Indaba, Nightscape will give visitors the chance to enjoy an impressive array of design exhibitions, installations, master classes, demonstrations, displays, curated retail and live music for free.
To ensure that everyone can enjoy this performative, mind-bending and memorable experience, Nightscape will take place from 27 February to 1 March at the piazza of the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town from 5pm daily.
“We want this public dimension of the Design Indaba to be accessible to the people of Cape Town. We have thrown open our arms to the city.” – Design Indaba Festival Manager, Bev Cupido.
At this year’s event, the collection of African-inspired homeware commissioned by global powerhouse, IKEA, will be showcased in public for the first time. Nightscape visitors will also be able to enjoy a curated display of all 10 of the objects nominated for the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa 2019 as well as the Design Indaba Capsule Collection.
Independent local designers such as Crystal Birch, MaXhosa and Pichulik will be retailing their product ranges on the piazza, while artists such as MIA, Darren English and Diamond Thug will be entertaining crowds in the evenings.
Along with a series of masterclasses, a number of industry leaders, including Wanuri Kahiu and Li Edelkoort, will be giving talks every evening, most of which will be entirely free. Certain classes and talks will require a ticket though so it’s best to refer to the festival guide for further information.
Tickets for the 2019 Design Indaba can be purchased on webtickets.
