The Deepest Darkest Contemporary Art Gallery in Cape Town hosted a fascinating group featuring 8 artists to interpret a 2-hour music track compiled from different styles, periods and genres.
With emerging and established artists from a range of practices, the show brings together a varied collection of works in response to the show’s concept.
Opting not to prescribe any kind of formal narrative, gallery director Deon Redman compiled an almost two-hour long music mix as the show’s ‘brief’.
‘What might seem an unorthodox approach was in fact quite freeing and opened the brief to each artists’ own response and reaction, which is a core philosophy of Deepest Darkest. The show aims to elicit work that is a personal, engaged response.’
Here are some fascinating pieces from the art gallery:

‘An Incredible Hulk’ (Hannalie Taute)

‘Quiet Down’ (Mariette Kotze)
