24 Apr Coca-Cola Collabs with Young SA Designers
A one-of-a-kind collaboration between Coca-Cola and several of South Africa’s most talented young designers has resulted in the Coke Threds collections.
Available on Superbalist, the Coke Threds collection features pieces from local designers who were tasked with creating edgy fashion items that incorporated the legendary Coca-Cola brand.
Some of the local designers that worked on this project include Rich Mnisi, Mathew Kieser of SOL SOL, Melissa Kieser of Maylee and Mpho Makua and Itumeleng Risenga of S.G.O.D (STYLAGANG Original Designs).
The collection takes something that many people see every day (the Coca-Cola logo) and unexpectedly juxtaposes it with high fashion. The designers have been clever in their use of the logo as you sometimes forget what it is and can appreciate it purely in a graphic and abstract way. – David West, Head of Design at Superbalist
The Coke Threds collection is refreshing, fun and bold. The black, red and white prints are both nostalgic and quirky and have been included on an array of skirts, jackets, hoodies, t-shirts and pants.
Coke has always been a part of our lives; all of us have a childhood memory of a time Coca-Cola was there to make the moment extra special. It’s affiliated with bringing people from different backgrounds together and we at STYLAGANG pride ourselves on having the ability to develop a new sense of unity in the youth, especially the youth in our townships. – Mpho Makua
