Goethe-Institut and Book Dash are inviting professional writers, illustrators and/or designers from Sub-Saharan Africa to two workshops happening over October 2019.
The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg, South Africa will be hosting a two-day skills transfer workshop on the 24th and 25th, and Book Dash will have a fast-paced book-making workshop on the 26th, as well as a practical school visit on the 29th.
Book Dash is a South African based social impact publisher of uniquely African books for young children. Based on research, Book Dash believes that every child should own one hundred books by the age of five, to improve literacy levels. To date, the publishing company has produced 128 original books using their fast-paced, innovative methods that harness the power of creative volunteers. All their books are free for the world to use, to promote access to high-quality, relevant African picturebooks and to increase love for reading. To find out more, or read the books for free, visit bookdash.org.
The Goethe Institute generously offers travel, visas, food and accommodation to creatives in South Africa and the diaspora, however, this is a call for creatives from outside of the country. The call for local participants will take place closer to the date.
Past participants are encouraged to apply as each request will be assessed on its merit.
