Of Soul and Joy Photo Project: A social art engagement that aims to empower South African youth through photography

Of Soul and Joy’s Photo Fest is a youth photography festival which takes place on the 14th of September at Buhlebuzile Secondary in Thokoza.

The Photo Fest presents a selection of photographic narratives developed by young photographers from Thokoza who have been part of the Of Soul and Joy photo project since its inception in 2012. This year’s festival programme will also include talks and panel discussions with renowned and emerging photographers and creatives. Photographic works under the theme “Khumalo Street, post 1994” will also form part of the exhibition.

About Of Soul and Joy (OSJ)

Its goal is to develop artistic skills amongst the youth, in the field of photography. It also engages and collaborates with the artistic community locally, regionally and abroad. Each year the most promising students are awarded a scholarship to pursue their studies in photography at a university of their choice in Johannesburg. To date, 34 scholarships have been awarded.

SOWETO – Shuttles will be leaving from 558a Lenkoe street, Phiri, Soweto to Thokoza from 12 pm throughout the day
