A3E Artist Profile: Gemma Shepherd

10and5 is dedicated to bringing you talent from across the South African creative industry by providing a platform for emerging creatives to showcase their work to a wider audience. Driven by this dedication, we have put together a new initiative, the Artist Acceleration and Exposure Programme (A3E), which aims to upskill emerging artists across South Africa, offers a platform for talented artists to reach new markets, and helps them break into the art scene.

Gemma Shepherd

Gemma Mary Shepherd is a Cape Town-based photographer and creative director who has had an eye for photography since her high school and university days. After spending some time at Cosmopolitan South Africa in 2015, she quickly discovered her place behind the camera and in 2016, she was one the ELLE Style Reporter contests.

Since then, Shepherd has worked with the likes of Rharha Nembhard, Tony Gum, Selfi, ODE and Lazuli. Her work has been featured in iMUTE Magazine and Roundtable Journal – where the covers were also shot by her.

Shortly after she discovered her passion for film photography, Shepherd exhibited at CTSP in Cape Town in’ I Want To Show You Something’ and’ By Way Of Hand.’ She has photographed fashion shows for Cosmopolitan and ELLE, as well as A Fashion Friend.

The photographer has worked with a number of brands; such as Woolworths, Superbalist, H&M, Cosmopolitan SA and ISM x Levi’s to name a few.
