10and5 is dedicated to bringing you talent from across the South African creative industry by providing a platform for emerging creatives to showcase their work to a wider audience. Driven by this dedication, we have put together a new initiative, the Artist Acceleration and Exposure Programme (A3E), which aims to upskill emerging artists across South Africa, offers a platform for talented artists to reach new markets, and helps them break into the art scene.
Currently completing his degree in architecture, Selwyn Steyn (22) is a Pretoria based artist. He often explores the ideologies that represent the universe around us as an operating system, he is interested in the process of analysis as well as the intersection of that which is presented as empirical and the actual realities of the world around us.
The emerging artist has exhibited at the ABSA gallery with BKHZ, Turbine Art Fair with RMB Talent Unlocked, No End Contemporary, UJ Art Museum, Johan Van Heerden Art Gallery and the National Arts Festival.
Steyn has entered multiple competitions where he was shortlisted as a finalist; these include the Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards, PPC Imaginarium, UJ Continuing Conversations and the most recent being the 30th instalment of Sasol New Signatures.
