The producers of the inaugural edition of the UAE’s 2020 Sharjah Fringe have put out a global call for producers to apply to be part of the first Fringe Festival in the region. The Fringe, which will be taking place from 16 January to 1 February 2020, is looking for work that will inspire, entertain, thrill and amaze a young audience and their families.
The Fringe is modeled on comparable good activities taking place all over the world, where artists are provided spaces to perform in exchange for a nominal registration and venue hire fee and receive the majority of their box office takings. However, as an additional incentive, producers are making travel and accommodation grants available to productions who want to minimize the risk of taking part. “It’s an untested formula in this part of the world and we want the best possible experience for artists and audiences,” Rayi said, adding that grants ranging from US$ 500 to US$ 2700 could be opted for.
Artists have until the end of September to submit their proposals for inclusion in the program. A briefing document and application form can be found at sharjahfringe.com.
