Founded by contemporary fashion designer, Rich Mnisi, ‘Thoughts‘ is a space of dialogue that encourages a community in support of inclusive conversations on the uncomfortable journey of life.
The first talk took place on Sunday, 10 November in Parktown North. The inaugural talk, which was joined by well-known individuals within the creative and media space tackled the becoming of self and identity.
Included in the panel were some of the most influential leaders, thinkers, and doers in the creative space. These individuals include multidisciplinary creative producer and writer Mahlogonolo Manchester Mahape, who was the event’s facilitator; Boity Thulo, one of South Africa’s most recognised stars; award-winning author, poet and academic, Lebohang Masango, designer and Faculty Press editor, Thebe Magugu; reality TV star and radio personality Lethabo Mathatho, as well as Letlhogonolo Shiba, who was selected to be part of the panel from a social media call-out.
The talk covered topics and issues relating to identity, self-discovery, and becoming of self. Each of the selected panelists opened up and shared their personal journeys regarding the topic at hand; what shaped their identity, discovering who they’re meant to be, their purpose, and how they were able to become who or what they are today.
The idea behind this collaborative discussion is to provide a space where people can speak openly and honestly on topics that are hardly ever spoken about on a day-to-day basis – in a space free of judgment and shame.
Be sure to be on the lookout for the next talk.
