13 Feb Winners of the Birds Of Prey Illustration Competition Announced
“Birds of Prey And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn“, the brand new movie featuring the iconic Harley Quinn, has been bought to life by 10 South African illustrators. To celebrate the release of the movie, which is in cinemas now, Between 10and5 hosted a competition whereby our audience could vote for their favorite illustration of one of the all-female superhero squad members. The campaign ran over 4 phases:
- Call-To-Enter: open call for audience members to submit their unique creation of one of the Birds Of Prey characters.
- The Curation and Selection of the Top 10 submissions.
- Top 10 entered into Instagram competition using the voting poll on 10and5 IG story. This ran for 3 days from Wednesday 5th – Friday 7th February.
It proved to be extremely difficult to choose who out of the 26 submissions should be entered into the IG competition. We were overwhelmed by the talent and range of creative interpretations. Top 3 winners were then selected based on over 3,000 individual audience votes on IG over the 3 days. The voting alone got everyone even more wrapped-up in the hype for the release of the film on the 7th February 2020. We also selected 10 audience members who voted every day, and they each won a movie ticket to see the movie.
The top ten illustrators were, in no particular order:
These artists showcased the depth of talent by sharing their unique version of the powerful DC Comic characters. The social media competition was subject to audience votes and was not decided upon by Between 10and5.
According to our Instagram voting poll, tracked by the images we posted on our story, the top three winners will receive the following prizes worth a total of R22,000:
1st Place: Dominique Dicks – iPhone 11 worth R16,000
2nd Place: Courtney Molony – Takealot Voucher to the value of R3,500
3rd Prize: Careshia Steenkamp – Deckle Edge Art Store Voucher to the value of R2,500
These illustrations perfectly encapsulate the bold, subversive, anarchist tone and over-the-top outrageousness of “Birds Of Prey”. Thank you to all the artists who submitted; to the audience for participating in the voting poll and a warm congratulations to the winners! Visit a cinema to see Harley Quinn stir up some unhinged chaos in Birds Of Prey in cinemas now.
