On January 13th, 2020, Africa’s reference platform for next-gen content, Digital Lab Africa (DLA), launched a call for creatives to submit applications for the 4th edition of Digital Lab Africa. This edition of the platform invites all creatives and cultural entrepreneurs from Sub-Saharan African countries to apply by 1st March 2020 to get a chance to take part in the DLA#4 acceleration programme.
Digital Lab Africa (DLA) is the first platform dedicated to creative content (immersive realities, video games, animation, music, and digital art) linked with innovation in Africa. The very idea of DLA is to incubate emerging creative talent by offering them a springboard to fast track their projects with the support and expertise of the DLA ecosystem in France and in Sub-Saharan African countries.
Created in 2016, Digital Lab Africa is an initiative of the French Institute and the French Embassy in South Africa, managed by the South African innovation hub Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct since 2018. It is supported by the Agence française de développement (AFD), SACEM, TRACE, TV5 Monde Afrique and a number of French and Sub-Saharan African partners.
The DLA applications, which are currently open, are open to anyone from the cultural and creative industries; these including artists, producers, designers, collectives, students or entrepreneurs. Projects need to be innovative from the perspective of form, storytelling, content, and technologies used, in one of these 5 categories: immersive realities, video games, music, animation, and digital art.
Selected applicants will be given a DLA Incubation Pass to fast track the development of their project. Alongside mentorship and training sessions, the DLA #4 winners will be hosted in residency in France and also attend industry events such as Annecy Animation festival, New Images, Paris Games Week or Les Nuits Sonores in France and the Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival in South Africa.
