08 Apr WITW x Krone MCC Artist Residency | When Krone Meets Art – Magic Happens
The layering of different cultures overlapping with cuisine as well as winemaking that tapped into the meditative space of ritualisation. This was the theme of the immersive WHATIFTHEWORLD X Krone experience, which took place at Twee Jonge Gezellen wine farm in Tulbagh.
As a welcome drink, the Amphora Blanc de Blancs 2017 was poured into Krone and Dokter and Misses collaborative glasses. The MCC is a pure expression of chardonnay, fermented in amphora with zero-dosage. The Blanc de Blancs makes use of methods belonging to cultures and traditions of the ancient world, that is revisited through a fresh and experimental new wave of winemaking.

All about freshness, chef Jacques Erasmus of Hemelhuijs also welcomed the guests with granadilla ice cream made on the spot with dry ice.

The WHATIFTHEWORLD X Krone gallery is housed in a historic building on the farm. Here, the guests engaged in a screening of Thania Petersen’s video installation ‘Sawt’, complemented by a scent experience by Agata Karolina of House of Gozdawa. From pillars of symbolic scented salt to the active collecting of salt and spices: our guests put into practice the ritualism of the overall message conveyed by the artists.

Chef Jacques was also tasked with the lunch, which was a spin on traditional Cape Malay cuisine, with the focus being on the reverence on the purity of ingredients. These dishes were served on hand-painted plates by Michael Taylor.

… And into the underground cellar for a performance by Alessandro Gigli (composer, performer) and Lezanne Viviers. Dancers wearing VIVIERS’ concept clothing engaged in a narrative set to the tune of Gigli’s compositions. It was also the launch of the pair’s collaborative album, which each guest got as a gift to take home.
