Studio H and Between 10 and 5 are proud to introduce EAT YOUR WALLS, as part of the Digital Food Exchange. This concept forms part of a larger umbrella project that was borne out of a direct response to the need for new ways to connect, share, and experience food together while supporting independent food businesses and artists.
EAT YOUR WALLS is an ongoing initiative that looks to raise funds equally for restaurants and artists through visual feasts in the form of posters. In the first phase of the initiative there is a video element where an eatery will take a designer through all the steps of making one of their stand-out recipes. The designer then uses that to create a recipe-inspired poster.
The first phase of this initiative has produced six collaborations between chefs and artists inclusive of the three elements of the campaign; namely posters, video, and an Instagram campaign.
The collaborations we got to see include Fanie Buys and Karen Dudley, Hoick and Max Bagels, Nobhongo Gxola and Phila Hilile, Jade Klara and Dylan Jones, as well as Sepial’s Kitchen and Anja Venter with a special emergency poster designed by Kim van Vuuren. The special emergency poster was created in support of Cape Town-based restaurant, Clarke’s, which has announced that they will close their doors permanently on the 26th of July 2020.
The Instagram campaign seeks to use the 10and5 platform to create more awareness about the fundraiser and highlight the collaborators and the synergy that comes from Eat You Walls. So far, we have held a flash Instagram auction for three Fanie Buys original artworks which had been created as an ode to The Kitchen, a well-known deli in Woodstock, Cape Town run by chef and writer, Karen Dudley.
The A2 Posters will be printed courtesy of Orms Print Room, a leading professional printing, framing, decor and design solutions company. Supporters of the initiative who purchase the posters can be certain to receive high-quality printing and care for their purchase.
The second phase will launch soon with more exciting artist/restaurant collaborations. Keen to get involved? Send us a mail on Eatyourwalls@10and5.com if you are a restaurant or designer who wants to take part.
