Yogi Sip Young Creators’ Network Top 15: Meet Lorenzo Plaatjies

One cannot list young and talented creatives without mentioning Lorenzo Plaatjies – he is synonymous with greatness. His IG serves a feast of spectacular and emotive artworks proving why he could possibly be one of the best graphic designers in Johannesburg.

Having first come across the artist’s work through his spell billing digital works in 2016 – a project exploring longing and sadness – we instantly put him on our radar of artists to watch.

We chat to him about being his creative journey as well as this year’s Young Creators’ Network:

What does being a part of the top 15 mean to you?

I really can’t wait to see what the other creators do, but it means I need to bring my A-game.

If you win the competition, what are you hoping to achieve – beyond designing the packaging?

I hope to put the money towards building an art studio so that I can further pursue my passion.

How does your work respond to some of the issues that we are faced with today?

I don’t think my work solves any problems besides being a tool for communicating ideas or information. I hope my work can connect with people or at least provoke & ignite new conversations.

How has COVID-19 affected your creative process and work? What have been some of the biggest challenges for you during this time?

Not being able to be around my peers has been difficult, collaboration has been a struggle but fortunately, I’m still able to work & use this time to focus on my creative goals.

What can people expect from you in the near future? What are your dreams/goals for your career?

More bold and experimental work, more use of Augmented Reality as a component of my work as well.
