After years of sharing highly curated depictions of her life and experiences on Tumblr, Lulama Wolf has graduated to curating art auctions for larger creative platforms. She joins the list of women who have been asked to curate 10and5’s IG auction as part of our Creative Women Month campaign – which aims to highlight and celebrate the efforts of women in the South African creative industry.
The artists featured are Lesego Seoketsa, Mookho Ntho, Rendani Nemakhavhani and Tinyiko Makwakwa.
We caught up with the rising artist ahead of her auction:
Briefly tell us about yourself and your creative journey, how did you end up where you are today?
My creative journey is of curiosity and finding out about my internal issues that relate to the environment I’m raised in. I’ve explored multi-dimensional parts of myself and that has led me to where I am now.
How are you preparing for the upcoming auction?
The process of curation is new to me as my main practice is being a visual artist, so shifting from creation to curation has been interesting because I have to consider another artist in the process to communicate their theme.
I started selecting from my favorite womxn artist that create with intuitive intentions.
Talk us through your process of searching for and selecting the artists you have selected to take part in the auction.
I selected artists I admire, womxn artists that communicate their themes intuitively.
Is there a specific artistic theme or criteria you looked for? If so, what criteria or theme is this?
No, no artistic theme however the criteria include womxn that work primarily in multidimensional media.
What role do creatives play in ensuring women-related issues are brought awareness and that women in arts are celebrated?
creatives play a role in ensuring Womxn related issues are brought to awareness because they are mostly created by womxn. They create platforms that aren’t performative about the issues that womxn go through, instead they follow through in their ideas.
These artworks will be available from tonight at 5 pm. Stay tuned on our IG to make bids.
