Cool De Suck-eyes LOVE AND HATE was very busy in Europe earlier this year with exhibitions in the Netherlands and Germany. The first was as part of the South African group show FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN IT: popculture , politics and strong voices. For interviews with the artists involved see this previous post. The second exhibition was their own. Their friend Melissa Williams has done a write up on their time there: In May 2010 LOVE AND HATE STUDIO artists 35ten73 and black koki were invited by Angelique Spaninks from the "MU" project space in Eindhoven in the Netherlands to create a black and white illustration on a huge 10m x 5m canvas. The drawing took place over the course of 9 days, outside the library and design school in the DE WITTE DAME building, where the gallery/projectspace is situated.

Portraits Exhibition "PORTRAITS" is an Exhibition by Daniel Popper and Janet Meintjies that opens August 3rd at the Irma Stern Museum in Cape Town. The exhibition runs until August 17th. Some background on the artists: DANNY POPPER Daniel Popper graduated from Michaelis in 2006. Since then he has participated in numerous group shows and developed a novel career in puppetry, sculpture and art making.
Elmarie Lategan's paintings on between 10 and 5 Elmaire Lateman is a South African painter. She was born in Durban in 1983 and graduated with an honours degree in fine Arts from the University of Stellenbosch in 2005. She is currently completing her Masters via Unisa. Elmarie's latest body of work represents a shift from previously explored figurative physical surroundings to the depiction of emotional consciousness. These oil paintings reflect an emotional state of being and portray aspects of escapism, especially amongst youth within a contemporary context.

With the help of some very dedicated locals - A Word Of Art, astore, The Kitchen and The Woodstock Industrial Centre - they managed to create a brand success story and deliver on their promise of a place to CELEBRATE THE FIFA WORLD CUP™ WITH FRIENDS.
