Greenpop welcomes Earth Day with a party celebrating the earth and her beautiful trees - Cool as Folk, 21 April 2011, The Assembly, 8pm. Tree planting initiative, Greenpop, started planting indigenous and fruit trees on the Cape Flats in September last year. At Greenpop, the past 7 months have seen just over 3000 trees going into the ground, environmental education spreading, more than 500 volunteers signing up to come and plant, and wonderful school children getting their hands dirty and learning to plant and care for trees.

A few weeks ago Greenpop had their first flashmob to raise awareness around the project. With more than 350 trees donated through their site and organic fertiliser sponsored by Neutrog Fertilisers, Greenpop has serious plans for Arbour Day tomorrow. Greenpop have been in touch with two pre-schools in Vrygrond, Sunrise pre-school and Ithemba pre-school, and they’ve requested 15 trees each,...

Greenpop activation 1 Greenpop have been busy over the last week organising pop-up green awareness campaigns. You might've seen them at the Neighbourgoods market at the Old Biscuit Mill last Saturday or in Long Street on Friday. Greenpoppers took over a parking space in Long Street and turned it into a green space with live music, artists, a picnic, lots of grass and trees. They say, "It's a campaign to make a statement and raise awareness about greening and how necessary it is right now." You can join them tomorrow where they'll be at the Old Biscuit Mill again hosting a jamming session in the car park. "We'll be selling trees, spreading the word about greening and enjoying the vibes on our patch of Greenpop grass." Visit them to find out some more about their aim to plant 1000 trees during September and buy 1 or 2 to help them reach their goal. So far 200 trees have been sold. www.greenpop.org
