Join us this Saturday in celebrating the adidas all originals i art sa community mural project in true local style with the Woodstock community. Ten houses in Woodstock received a makeover in the form of graffiti art, this was all part of the adidas all originals i art sa community mural project curated by /a word of art. i art woodstock was the first tier of three in this project, all originals i art koekemaap supported by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport will be coming in May 2011 as well as all originals i art soweto coming in September 2011. The murals in Woodstock were a success in more than just being pleasing to the eye of the passersby. Through their interaction, the mural artists befriended and inspired the community with their art and creativity. Beautiful photographic prints of the murals are currently showing at /A WORD OF ART 66 Albert Road, Woodstock and proceeds from the art sales are being collected in order to hold daily art workshops within the gallery for the kids of Woodstock. At the end of April there will be a ‘paint by numbers mural day’ in the community for the kids. This Saturday /A WORD OF ART will be hosting a snoek braai with samosas, koeksisters and all the trimmings including a parade by the Kaapse Klopse and other local musicians. It is a great opportunity to see the wall murals as they stand and to get a feel for the culture behind the i art woodstock project. After the community braai and festivities all originals i art woodstock will be throwing an after party, this will be curated by Red Bull Music Studio Cape Town and held at /A WORD OF ART. The evening will bring you two talented Woodstock musicians, a Kaapse klopse outfit, six well-known Cape Town DJs and one vocalist.
