Exhibition alter: ‘The Preservation of Cape Malay Culture and Tradition

Tashneem Abrahams has brought her art to life in her first solo exhibition honouring Cape Malay culture.

The semi-permanent photographic exhibition, The Preservation of Cape Malay Culture and Tradition, navigates an exploration of the traditions and rituals within the Cape Malay culture, all captured through the fascinated mind of photography graduate Tashneem Abrahams. On display for an undisclosed timeframe, the show is curated by Advocate Ighsaan Higgins under the auspices of the Muslim and Slave Heritage Museum.

Also: Zizipho Poswa’s latest solo exhibition, uBuhle boKhokho (Beauty of Our Ancestors), opens next week at Southern Guild Gallery.

The exhibition works, in black and white, and an array of sepia shades, document key facets of Cape Malay culture that are intrinsic to its identity. A part of this are landscapes of Bo-Kaap, Cape Malay choirs and mouloods (celebrating the life of Prophet Muhammad).
