South Africa’s brightest fashion stars took center stage at the Local Fashion Police Awards Finale on Thursday, 28 November, at The Station in Newtown. This electrifying event celebrated not only the creativity of local designers but also the movement to champion South African-made fashion.
Boogy Maboi, Welcome Moyo, Nokukhanya Shandu, and Kamogelo Machaba
The campaign reached new heights this year, with hundreds of entries nationwide narrowing to four winners: Boogy Maboi, Welcome Moyo, Nokukhanya Shandu, and Kamogelo Machaba. Each was paired with a renowned designer—Orapeleng Modutle, Mzukisi Mbane, Ole Ledimo, and Jessica Jane Molebatsi—who created bespoke designs for them worth R40,000. The star-studded crowd included celebrities like Sjava, Wanda Baloyi, and Sophie Ndaba, alongside South Africa’s top fashion influencers.
Entertainment was as dynamic as the runway, featuring a powerful performance by the legendary Boom Shaka and a surprise alumni showcase, spotlighting past designers who continue to make waves in the industry. The interactive Trellidor jail photobooth was a playful highlight, where guests “arrested” for not wearing local designs pledged to support South African fashion.
The evening wasn’t just about fashion—it was about impact. Proudly SA’s Chief Marketing Officer, Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi, called the campaign a “movement driving economic empowerment and job creation,” while FNB Business Development Head, Janis Robson, emphasized its role in fostering entrepreneurial growth and strengthening local value chains.
