Women photographers in Joburg, here’s something for you. The Market Photo Workshop and Muholi Art Institute are hosting the first-ever Black Women in Photography (BWP) Conference and it’s free to attend.
It’s happening from 21 to 23 August 2025 at The Market Square in Newtown. The three-day gathering is all about creating safer, more supportive spaces for women photographers. Expect conversations on mentorship, safety, authorship, collaboration, and protecting your archives and work.
The programme will cover topics like working together without exploitation, safety in the field, caring for mental health, and how to own and preserve your images and stories. There will also be a focus on how to create ethically and collaboratively and how to build sustainable creative careers.
Seats are limited, so if you want in, RSVP to Rivoningo Rikhotso at rivoningor@marketphotoworkshop.co.za.
